Things to do in Governador Celso Ramos

A peninsula of little coves, islands on the horizon and fishing villages. Here are a few places to get you started, and maybe to help you plan a few days on this stretch of the Brazilian coast.

A stretch of coast full of hidden corners

Governador Celso Ramos sits on a peninsula in the state of Santa Catarina and has more than 40 beaches. Some have good facilities; others are tucked away and take a little more effort to reach.

The sea is a big part of the fun: boat trips, diving, hiking trails and water sports, plus islands and a historic fortress to explore.

Beaches and views

Just a small sample to start with. The rest of the beaches, with tips on getting there, are in the Local Guide for guests.

Praia de Palmas

The best-known beach in the area, close to Canto dos Ganchos, with good facilities. Early risers also get a lovely sunrise over the water.

Praia Grande

One of the local highlights. From above, you can really see the jagged shape of this coastline.

Praia das Cordas

One of the beaches in the area where the last stretch is on foot. Guests will find the access point in the Local Guide.

Canto dos Ganchos

The fishing village where Casa G12 is located. In the late afternoon, the sunset over the sea is a gentle reminder to slow down.

Thinking of visiting? Casa G12 is in Canto dos Ganchos, close to Praia de Palmas and other popular spots in Governador Celso Ramos. It has sea views, a private pool and room for up to 8 people.

A history shaped by the sea

The area was settled by people from the Azores and was home to Armação da Piedade, one of Santa Catarina's main whaling stations. Whaling drove the local economy at the time, and it also relied on the labor of enslaved people. It's part of the story behind the town's deep connection to the sea.

Santa Cruz Fortress, Anhatomirim Island

On Anhatomirim Island, the fortress is one of the region's great historic landmarks, and a good reason to head out on the water.

A few experiences to add to your list

Dolphins in the bay

In Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin Bay), bottlenose dolphins are often spotted on boat trips.

Arvoredo Marine Biological Reserve

A protected area that matters a lot for marine life in the region. Visiting rules are set by ICMBio, Brazil's federal conservation agency.

Winter Festival

Local food, a classic car meet-up, family activities and a cuca festival (cuca is a sweet crumb cake popular in southern Brazil). Dates change every year, so check the town's official channels before you go.
